Slaanesh VS. Khorne. Welcome to the Thunderdome!

Well, despite a growing addiction playing League of Legends online, I have managed to get some work done on the Slaanesh demon prince, the quite a bit modeled on the second berzerker squad and a bit done up on my second land raider. Without further adeiu, here are the pics,

First up, excited that he no longer has to walk everywhere like everyone else is the Slaanesh demon prince:

Following the newly winged horror, is the armored bulk of the red destroyer, a WE landraider,

Not sure yet if the front will be hinged to actually flip up and open, or if I will just make it look like it could, but keep it sealed. I am leaning towards the second option for ease.

Finally, a new squad of bloodthirsty brutes has appeared on the horizen, praise be to the khorne, my the blood never cease flowing,

Next up is Cap't Hook, don't really wanna shake his hand

Following the Captain, is the Knight,

I still need to add some more detail to the glaive, but I think it is turning out nicely.

I also have three more that are almost completed, and will post them and a squad shot once I have all the backpacks made up and put on. And finally, a recent accrual of some FLGS$ saw me get a box of CSM and the Son's of R'lyeh have returned to my workbench.

Here is the beginings of the Standard bearer:

Not Quite sure about the head yet, I may redo it. I am also going to add a banner type piece under neath the squid head for the banner.

Finally, I have a question to pose to everyone, I am thinking about redoing the horns of the Slaanesh demon prince to be something like this:

Basically making them into a symbol of slaanesh. The question is do you think it would look good? If I do this, then he will probably get quite a few more Slaanesh symbols which I have avoided putting on him thus far in trying to keep in nondenominational. Seeing as how I am planning on selling this piece, do you guys think it would be good to dedicate him to slaanesh (it is the best prince gamewise), or would it be better to leave him more neutral?

Until Next time, when I will have some concept sketches of landraiders to show, I am out!

Trolly train of Khorne and Slaanesh Ape Demon WIP's

So here are a few updates of some of the stuff I have been working on,

First up is the World Eaters Landraider, some of you may remember it from the WIP pics that I have posted Before. It is finally getting some paint,

Btw, this is my first model that I really did with an airbrush (the red), and I must say that even with a crappy airfed single action, it is AWESOME. As far as painting red on large flat surfaces this was definately the coolest idea ever.

Next up is the Slaanesh demon prince that I originally posted up  Here.

A little bit more work has been done on him, added arms and reposed some stuff. I thought the old pose was boring, so I tried to make it more dynamic.

What you guys think?

What have I been up to lately?

Well, I actually have been doing some modelling recently, especially getting some stuff painted. Here is a few of the things that I have been working on recently....

Just as a note these are the first pictures of miniatures that I have taken with my new camera and tripod...I'm thinking I love it, the only editing that I did was adding the watermark, not even resizing or cropping....

Berzerkers I really want to get my khorne army done so I have been painting mainly my first squad of berzerkers, and hopefully will start on the landraider once those are done.

The last on is still a WIP, a little bit left to paint on him, but I figured I would take his pictures anyway.

Next up is some further progress on the Ork Mek that I am doing as a commission for my brother. Added a bit since the last post, just need to do some casting to finish up the work on his left arm power klaw.

Finally is one of my crazy fantasy conversions that I decided to do, its a Slaanesh/Night Lords type demon prince. I will probably end up selling it when I am done converting it, so if anyone is interested, hit me up.

Not sure if I am going to give him wings, a jump pack, or nothing yet. For those that were hoping for more Cthulhu marines they are coming, I have the bits for a standard bearer and am planning on doing a Librarian psyker, but I need to clear some of my backlog first.

So what do you guys think?

The Horned Rat - Chaos in the Old World - Review

So for those of you that don't know, Fantasy Flight just came out with the first expansion for the board game Chaos in the old world.

THE ORIGIONAL
Just so that everyone is on the same page, the original Chaos in the Old World places each player in control of one of the four main Chaos Gods. Players then set about corrupting the different regions of the old world using cultists, warriors, greater demons, and the chaotic powers of the gods themselves. Players can win in one of two ways, by victory points which players get by dominating and corrupting the world, or by completely specific tasks and advancing their chaos dials.

THE HORNED RAT
The new expansion for the game allows a fifth person to play as the god of the skaven, The Horned Rat. The expansion comes with new power cards and upgrade cards for every original power, as well as a new set of old world cards (for those that don't know, Old world cards are flipped each turn giving effects and changing the game).

PLAYING THE GAME
So this weekend I got to play three games with the new cards. We only had three people, so we chose to play with the Skaven, Nurgle, and Tzeentch. We went with both the new power cards for the gods as well as going with the expert level  set of Old world cards.

The first game was won by the skaven. The game went well with everyone getting used to the new cards and how the powers changes from what they used to be. Everyone was pretty even with skaven eventually being able to pull ahead thanks to an Old world card. The second game went fast, I played nurgle and was able to get 4 dial advancements first turn, 5 the second turn, and then one more to win on the last turn. During the last game I got my turn to play skaven, and thanks to the same old world card as the first game I was able to pull ahead early and win.

REFLECTION
I think playing with three people is not ideal, whether with or without the expansion. With only three it is hard to stop someone if they get ahead. I would definitely recommend playing with no less than 4, and want to see how the game goes with 5 people.

The powers: The new power cards change the dynamics of the Chaos gods a lot. Nurgle was able to easily get over six dial advancements each game, and actually won by dial advancement. There wasn't a lot of change for Tzeentch, who can still go either dial advancement or victory points. The horned rat powers deal mainly with dominating regions, but their upgrade powers and dial advances allow for the rats to go for either win condition depending on the game.

The Old World Deck: In the original game the old world cards rarely made any huge difference in the game, maybe one card a game would be a game changer. There are two ways to play with the new old world cards, shuffling them in with the old cards and dealing them out regularly, or using only the new cards. We played with only the new cards, and it was pretty crazy. Every one of the new cards affects the game board pretty massively, so playing with only the new cards brings a new anticipation to the Old world phase. Since there are only 9 new cards, playing with only the new ones means that you see each card a lot more often then with the older deck.

Overall: I honestly love the game, both the original and the expansion. I think that four or five people will be best for playing, I was not completely impressed with the three player game. The new power cards really do change how the gods play. Combined with the new power cards, the gods really do play differently. This gives a nice different feel to the game and really changes things up.

The only downside I feel is that you really need to play the game a couple time to get the hang of things. Each God has a few tricks that you need to prepare for and be able to deal with. Just like with the original game the dynamic changes as players understand better on how to play the Gods.

I would definitely recommend picking up the Horned Rat if you have the original game, hell I recommend picking up the original game and the horned rat even if you've never played before.

Does anyone have any questions?
